CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police were involved in a stolen vehicle chase Friday afternoon.
According to Carbondale Police, just after 4:30 p.m., officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle traveling west on East Main Street. The driver of the vehicle turned north on North Illinois Avenue and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers ceased pursuing the vehicle due to the danger posed by the reckless nature of the driver’s actions in the city. Officers discovered that the vehicle crashed on the railroad tracks on East Dillinger Road and three occupants fled on foot.
During the investigation, officers identified all three suspects. Two juvenile suspects were eventually arrested. The third suspect is an adult and has been identified. Charges are pending for that individual, whose name is not being released at this time. This case is still under investigation.
One of the juveniles was released to a guardian and the other was released to an adult with consent from their guardian. No further information can be released due to restrictions related to the Illinois Juvenile Court Act.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the investigation. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing according to Carbondale Police.
