METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

February 14, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to a disturbance in the alley of the 1100 block of E. 5th Street. Upon arrival, officers observed a male and female in the alley. Upon seeing the police, the male took off running. Officers recognized the male as Joshua D. Coontz, 45, of Metropolis. A foot chase ensued and Coontz was captured. A computer check revealed that he was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for bringing contraband into a penal institution. A search revealed that Coontz was in possession of a controlled substance (Alprazolam pills). Coontz was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting/Obstructing Arrest and the warrant. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

February 17, 2023
Jamilah S. Howard, 30, of Metropolis was arrested on 12th at Ophia St. Howard was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Johnson County, IL for failure to appear on a driving while license suspended charge. Howard was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
