Four Area Transit Systems Awarded Rebuild Illinois Funding for Projects

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Four transit providers in our area are among 32 downstate transit systems that will see a share of $113.8 million as part of the historic, bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program. That’s according to an announcement made by Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation Tuesday.

The funding brings the total investment in downstate transit via competitive grants to $337.8 million, supporting the governor’s mission to create economic opportunity by improving all modes of transportation while boosting safety and efficiency.

Jackson County Mass Transit will get $466,000 for technology enhancements. Rides Mass Transit District will get $2,600,000 for heavy duty and super medium duty buses. Shawnee Mass Transit will receive $24,000 for a training facility. South Central Transit will see $900,000 for the second phase of its transfer station.
