CARTERVILLE – An active shooter incident Friday in Williamson County ended in a murder-suicide for a Saline County couple.

According to Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich, just before 9 a.m, the sheriff’s office received a report of an active shooter at Integrated Health, located at 310 W. Plaza Dr. in Carterville.

Law enforcement arrived on scene moments later and found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot  wounds. The injured woman, identified as 32-year-old Michelle L. Aumiller of Harrisburg, was taken by Carterville Fire and EMS to Memorial Hospital in Carbondale where she was later pronounced dead.

Initial attempts to located the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Robert W. Aumiller of Harrisburg, were unsuccessful. It was determined that he had fled the scene. The sheriff says the couple were married, but estranged at the time of the incident.

As an abundance of caution, multiple schools throughout Williamson and Johnson County were placed on lockdown.

Robert Aumiller’s vehicle was found in a field near the intersection of Cardinal Lane and Cypress Drive in Cambria. The vehicle was surrounded by law enforcement where Robert Aumiller was discovered to be dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Carterville Police Department requested the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to be the lead agency investigating this matter.
