ZEIGLER – The Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Zeigler Police Department are investigating a Wednesday morning house fire on Maple Street in Zeigler.
According to the Zeigler Fire Department, around 8 a.m. firefighters were sent to the fire at 802 Maple St. Royalton Fire Department provided automatic aid.
The first arriving Zeigler police officer reported smoke showing from the home with a possible kitchen fire. The officer was able to wake the occupant of the home and he was brought to safety.
The first arriving engine reported light smoke showing from the home. Personnel entered the home and located a small fire in a room near the back of the home. The fire was extinguished quickly. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
