VIENNA – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a Social Security scam.

In a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page, they say if you receive a letter or an email stating that your Social Security number has been suspended due to fraudulent activity or whatever the case may be, do not respond to it. This is a scam.

The sheriff’s office wants you to remember that you should never give any of your personal information out over the phone, email, or even mail. If it looks official or sounds official, look up the phone number yourself for Social Security or the Attorney General and call them if you have questions or concerns.
