HARRISBURG – Harrisburg Police arrested two men Saturday subsequent to several burglary investigations.

Police say around the end of June and the beginning of July, they took several burglary reports from residents in which a home and vehicles were burglarized. During these burglaries a UTV and multiple firearms were taken.

During the investigation officers were able to develop information that led them to the location and recovery of the stolen UTV. Subsequent to recovering the UTV, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, 38-year-old Heath A. McRoy of Marion.

Officers were involved in a foot pursuit with McRoy during which time he discarded a firearm.

McRoy was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered. It was confirmed to have been a firearm reported stolen from a burglary under investigation.

McRoy was informally charged with three counts of Burglary, Theft over $10,000, Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Resisting a Peace Officer.

Thirty-nine-year-old Bobby R. Hatcher of Carrier Mills was informally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon and Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition by a Felon.

Harrisburg Police were assisted in their investigation by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, the Carrier Mills Police Department, the Saline County State’s Attorney Office and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System SIRT Team.
