CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting.

According to Carbondale Police, officers responded to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale around 3:20 a.m. after two people arrived in a vehicle with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

There were multiple bullet holes in the vehicle the men arrived in. The investigation revealed that the men at the hospital were involved in a shooting incident with an individual or individuals in a second vehicle in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of East Main Street resulting in the injuries.

Officers recovered a firearm and spent shell casings from inside the vehicle the injured men drove to the hospital. One of the injured men, 23-year-old Dejuon D. Baltimore of Champaign, was arrested for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail after he was medically treated. The other occupant was treated by medical staff and released without charges. 

During the course of the investigation, officers were able to identify the other vehicle involved in the shooting. Just before 2 Sunday afternoon, officers located the vehicle traveling on South Wall Street and conducted a traffic stop. The occupant of the Jeep, 25-year-old Levar D. Woods of Carbondale, was uninjured but was found to be in possession of two firearms. Woods was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
