FAIRFIELD – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has announced they have turned over dispatching duties to the Wayne County 911 dispatchers at the Fairfield Police Department.

The sheriff’s office says the move creates a safer environment not only for correctional officers, but for the facility as a whole as multiple correctional officers are now on the floor 24/7, rather than splitting their time with dispatching.

Due to cooperation with the City of Fairfield, the change has not resulted in any additional expenditure, or cost any jobs at the sheriff’s office.

If you need to reach the Wayne County Jail or Civil Process Department, you can contact them at 618-842-6096.

For a non-emergency request for a deputy, contact 618-842-6631 and you will reach the Wayne County 911 dispatch center.

For all emergencies dial 911.
