MT. VERNON – Bond is set at $5 million for a 20-year-old Mt. Vernon man being held in the Jefferson County Jail on first-degree murder charges in Gallatin County.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies took Demetrius Walker into custody Friday on charges of murder, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and violating bail bond.
Walker appeared before Judge JoBeth Weber Monday on a local charge of Class 4 felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Bond in Jefferson County was set at $100,000.
Sources say Walker was found in possession of a handgun believed used in a recent murder in Gallatin County.
He was served Monday in the Jefferson County Jail with a Gallatin County warrant charging him with two counts of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors in that case have indicated they will seek extended term sentencing if Walker is convicted in their case. He’s scheduled for an April 3 preliminary hearing in Gallatin County Court.
