METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information for publication on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025.

September 10, 2025
Metropolis Police received a call to the Ft. Massac Campgrounds. The caller stated that a male subject was harassing people and smoking methamphetamine. Officers located Eric Mitchell, 42, of Metropolis. Upon making contact, Mitchell was making irrational statements and showed signs of drug impairment. He attempted to throw a glass smoking pipe, commonly used for methamphetamine, onto the ground, but it shattered upon impact. He was arrested and made threats to the officer, his family, and minorities who might be incarcerated in the jail. Mitchell was taken to Massac Hospital for clearance. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, threatening public officials, and resisting/obstructing arrest. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

September 11, 2025
Jonathan C. Piper, 46, of Metropolis, was arrested on Yasoda near 5th Street. Piper was wanted on warrants issued by Massac County for possession of a controlled substance and possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

At 2:57 AM, a Metropolis officer conducted a traffic stop in the field adjacent to Ft. Massac State Park. A computer check revealed that the driver, David B. Shepler, 54, of Brookport, had a revoked driver’s license and no insurance on the vehicle. A search found him in possession of methamphetamine and hydrocodone. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance (2 counts), driving while license revoked, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. Shepler was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

September 15, 2025
Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 1700 block of Filmore. The caller stated that she went to check on her father’s house and found Eric Mitchell, 42, of Metropolis inside. No one had permission to be in the house, as the owner was incarcerated. The caller confronted Mitchell, who then left the premises. Officers located Mitchell on Walter Drive, arrested him, and charged him with criminal trespass to residence. A search found him to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe with methamphetamine residue. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. After conferring with the State’s Attorney, Mitchell was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

September 16, 2025
Kyle B. Hurst, 29, of Metropolis, was arrested in the 1000 block of E. 2nd Street. Hurst was wanted on two warrants issued by Massac County for failure to appear in court (FTA) on burglary charges and possession of methamphetamine. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis officers were called to the Ohio Bridge on I-24 for a suicidal subject threatening to jump. McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, McCracken County EMA, and Metropolis Fire all responded, with EMA and MFD preparing boats in case they were needed. The investigation revealed the incident to be a hoax. MPD was able to track the subject’s cell phone and located Michael J. Seaton, 40, of Metropolis, at the City Park next to the swimming pool. Seaton claimed it must have been a misunderstanding. He was charged with disorderly conduct and filing a false report, and was released on a notice to appear.

September 18, 2025
Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 800 block of Catherine. The caller stated that Teresa S. Neimeyer, 34, of Metropolis, was inside and refusing to leave. Upon arrival, officers asked her to leave the property several times, but she refused. Neimeyer was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to property. She was released on a notice to appear.
