METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, April 28, 2025.
April 21, 2025
Metropolis Police were called to a residence in the 1800 block of Ferry. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim was asleep in the living room, when he was struck in the head three times by a baseball bat. The offender also shot at him twice but missed. The victim identified the offender as James H. Smith, 65, of Metropolis. Officers learned that Smith lived at Humma’s Apartments. Surveillance was set up while search warrants were being obtained. Smith was observed leaving the complex and taken into custody. Once the search warrant was executed, officers located the bat as well as ammunition matching the casing found at the scene. Smith was charged with Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 22, 2025
Metropolis officers responded to a prowler complaint at a residence in the 100 block of East 6th. A Metropolis sergeant observed Kyle B. Hurst, 38, of Metropolis stealing copper from an air conditioner. The backpack he had with him contained tools and pieces of copper. Hurst was charged with Theft and Possession of Burglary Tools. He was processed and released on a notice to appear.
April 23, 2025
Metropolis Police arrested Zakry A. Anderson, 32, of Brookport at the Motel 6. Anderson was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Domestic Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Michael T. Benton, 43, of Metropolis was arrested on 12th Street and Coburn. Benton was wanted on a KY warrant for Parole Violation. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis K9 officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Catherine at Sanders Circle. A computer check on the driver, Ronald Hoyle, 40, of Mayfield, KY showed he had a suspended driver’s license. The K9 alerted to the vehicle and a search found a backpack containing drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. The backpack belonged to the passenger, Jennifer L. Evans, 43, Metropolis. Hoyle was charged with Driving while License Suspended and released on a Notice to Appear. Evans was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of West 8th Street for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival, officers met with the caller who stated that Sarah G. Kennedy, 31, of Metropolis was sleeping inside the garage. Officers woke her up and arrested her for Criminal Trespass to Property. She had been previously trespassed and given notice by MPD. A search revealed that she was in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was charged with both offenses and released on a notice to appear.
A Metropolis officer observed Savannah G. Stafford, 27, of Metropolis driving a motor vehicle on 20th Street. The officer was aware that she had a suspended driver’s license. A computer check confirmed this. Stafford was charged and released on a notice to appear.
April 24, 2025
A Metropolis officer stopped a vehicle for speeding 47 mph in a posted 30 mph zone. A computer check showed the driver, Matthew L. Owens, 32, of Metropolis had a suspended driver’s license and he could not provide proof of insurance. Owens was arrested and charged with DWLS, Speeding and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. He was released on a notice to appear.
Clayton N. White, 40, of Buncombe, IL, was arrested at the Huck’s Gas Station. White was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Possession of Methamphetamine. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 25, 2025
Metropolis officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of Girard Street. Officers met with the caller who stated that Devonda G. LaMoureux, 23, of Calvert City, KY, was at the residence causing trouble and had been previously trespassed from the property. Officers confirmed that she had been previously trespassed. Lamoureux was charged with Criminal Trespass to Residence and released on a notice to appear.
April 26, 2025
Metropolis officers responded to an apartment in the 600 block of Market Street. Officers met with the victim who is pregnant. The victim advised that she was pushed down and her foot was injured when it was caught between the door and door frame as she was trying to flee the apartment, however Christian L. Dumas, 23, of Metropolis refused to let her leave. He pushed her numerous times while she was holding a child. Dumas was arrested and charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
