METROPOLIS – The Metropolis Police Department released the following information on Monday, April 7, 2025.
March 26, 2025
A Metropolis officer stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on 14th and Catherine. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong smell of raw cannabis. A search of the vehicle found cannabis, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and prescription medicine belonging to another person. The driver, Robert A. Ledsinger, 42, of Joppa was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Prescription Medicine Belonging to Another. The passenger, Elizabeth H. Barger, 35, of Golconda was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. Upon completion of processing, they were released on a notice to appear.
A Metropolis officer stopped a Nissan for failing to stop a stop sign on Girard and 5th Street. A computer check revealed that the driver, Larry A Sims, 50, of Kevil, KY had a suspended driver’s license. Sims was charged with DWLS and the stop sign violation. He was released on a notice to appear.

Candice M. Grant, 33, of Metropolis was arrested in the 600 block of East 17th Street. Grant was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by McCracken County, KY for probation violation. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis sergeant stopped a vehicle for a defective headlight on U.S. 45 and Devers. A computer check on the 17 year old juvenile revealed that her driver’s license was suspended for too many citations. She was issued a notice to appear and released to her mother.
March 31, 2025
Peyton R. Norwood, 21, of Metropolis was arrested in the 100 block of West 5th. Peyton was wanted on warrants from McCracken County, KY. The warrants were for Possession of Fentanyl and Possession of Carfentanil. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Jonathan P. Shelton, 54, of Metropolis was arrested at his residence in the 500 block of East 6th. Shelton was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Harassment by telephone. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 1, 2025
A Metropolis officer observed a vehicle parked in the roadway at approximately 10 p.m. with no lights or hazards flashing on 17th and Filmore and was occupied by numerous people. The officer activated his emergency lights and the driver later identified as Richard A Ward, 45, of Vienna exited the vehicle. He refused commands to get back into the vehicle and then fled on foot. A chase ensued and he was captured a few blocks away. Ward was wanted on warrants. The warrants were issued by Pope County for FTA-Burglary, Vehicle Theft Conspiracy, Criminal Trespass to Property and Unlawful Possession of Stolen Property. He was wanted by Union County for Burglary. A search of the vehicle found Ward to be in possession of drug paraphernalia (meth pipe) and one of the passengers, Douglas G. Trovillion, 60, of Chicago was in possession of a meth pipe and a bottle containing Xanax which he did not have a prescription for. Trovillion was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug Paraphernalia. Ward was charged with the warrants, Improper Parking on Roadway, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting Arrest. They were lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 3, 2025
Metropolis officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of Girard. Upon arrival, officers learned that Kayela Miller, 36, of Metropolis got into an argument with her daughter and took her phone. Miller was attempting to break the phone with a hammer and ended up hitting her son with the claw part of the hammer. Miller was charged with Reckless Conduct and released on a notice to appear.
April 4, 2025
Metropolis officers were called to Big John’s. Upon arrival, the victim stated that his bicycle was damaged by Jeffery A. Beal, 62, of Metropolis. Officers viewed video from Big John’s which showed Beal letting the air out of the tires and damaging a reflector. A Metropolis sergeant located Beal in the gaming room of the Speedy Mart on 12th Street. Beal was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Damage to Property. He was released on a notice to appear.
A Metropolis officer observed Terrell B. Deen, 39, of Metropolis on Girard Street. The officer was aware that Deen was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by McCracken County for Possession of Methamphetamine. As the officer approached, Deen fled and a pursuit ensued. Deen is known to carry a firearm. During the pursuit, a taser was deployed. Deen was taken into custody and found to be carrying a loaded semi-auto 9mm pistol in his waistband. He was also found to be in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Deen was charged with the warrant, Possession of Methamphetamine, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers were requested to assist DCFS and a residence in the Spence Apartments. While assisting, officers observed Ezell Jones, 46, of Carbondale, leaving the residence. The officers were aware that Izell had been previously trespassed from housing as well as being wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Alexander County for possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Izell was arrested and charged with the warrant as well as Criminal Trespass to State Supported Property. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Cody B Weaver, 44, of Metropolis was arrested in the parking lot of the Quality Inn. Weaver was wanted on warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Contraband in a Penal Institution. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
April 5, 2025
Christina L. Avila, 54, of Metropolis was arrested in the 1300 block of Coburn. Avila was wanted on two warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for FTA-Possession of Methamphetamines. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis officers and Massac County deputies were responding to a call for assistance from a Brookport officer. While responding with lights/sirens activated, a pick up truck pulled in front of a Metropolis sergeant from the I-24 ramp to U.S. 45. At first the truck appeared to yield then sharply accelerated and cut in front of the squad, reaching speeds in excess of 105 mph in the rain. The vehicle at one point lost control drove off the roadway and then into oncoming lanes. The vehicle continued onto Brookport with the officers still behind him. In the meantime, the Brookport incident was secured. The vehicle ended up crashing in Brookport. A 17-year-old was taken into custody. He was charged with Reckless Driving, Failure to Yield to an Authorized Emergency Vehicle and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding. He was released to his mother on a notice to appear.
A Metropolis officer stopped a vehicle on 18th and Nevelle for expired registration. The driver, Ryan J. Kline, 31, of Metropolis has a suspended driver’s license. Kline was taken into custody and a tow truck was called. A search of the vehicle revealed signs of drug trafficking. A large amount of paraphernalia and cannabis was located in a backpack. Kline was charged with Cannabis Trafficking, Driving While Suspended, and Expired Registration. Kline was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
A Metropolis officer observed a vehicle on 7th and Butler. He recognized the driver, Sherident J. Miller, 25, of Paducah from many previous contacts and knew that she did not have a valid driver’s license. A traffic stop was conducted and Miller could not provide proof of insurance. She was charged with No Valid Driver’s License and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. She was released on a notice to appear.
The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
