CARBONDALE – A 16-year-old Carbondale juvenile suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital for treatment following a shooting around 10:40 Wednesday night in the 300 block of South Marion Street in Carbondale.

An investigation by Carbondale Police found four juvenile acquaintances mishandled a firearm which resulted in the victim being shot accidentally. Police recovered the gun believed to have been involved in the shooting. The gun was reported stolen from a vehicle in Carbondale.

The juvenile male who fired the shot was arrested for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and released to his parents after consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.
