Fifty-eight-year-old Paul E. Pfister was taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center where he awaits a pretrial detention hearing.

Deputies responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m. and spoke with the victim, a 66-year-old woman, who said Pfister was her live-in boyfriend and was still in the home armed.

Mt. Vernon Police, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Department of Natural Resources agents responded to assist.

A perimeter was established around the home. Deputies were able to get Pfister to leave the home peacefully and took him into custody without further incident.

Sheriff’s detectives were called out to assist with a search warrant for the home.

Pfister was first taken to Crossroads Hospital for assessment and then to the Justice Center.
