CARBONDALE – A Murphysboro man was arrested Saturday in connection with a report of shots fired recently in the area of West Main and North Springer streets in Carbondale.
According to Carbondale Police, during their investigation, they identified 18-year-old Justin N. Perteet-Lovelady as the suspect who fired the gun around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 21.
Then last Monday, Carbondale Police detectives with help from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s office, got an arrest warrant for Perteet-Lovelady for charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Around 1:45 Saturday morning, police saw Perteet-Lovelady in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue. Perteet-Lovelady attempted to flee from officers but was quickly apprehended.
Perteet-Lovelady was seen attempting to conceal a loaded handgun moments before officers captured him. He was arrested without further incident and the handgun was recovered. Perteet-Lovelady was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
In addition to the warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Firearm, Perteet-Lovelady was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, Armed Violence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Resisting a Police Officer.
Perteet-Lovelady was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
