ZEIGLER – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a male subject lying in the roadway near the front of a vehicle parked on Illinois 149 west of Zeigler around 2:10 Friday morning.

According to Sheriff Kyle Bacon, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call about the incident and deputies were sent to the scene immediately. A Zeigler Police officer also responded.

Sheriff Bacon says law enforcement soon arrived and spoke with the subject, who was found to have numerous injuries. Preliminary information indicates that the subject was the victim of an Aggravated Battery and Robbery. The investigation of the incident is active and ongoing. 

The Zeigler Police Department, Christopher Police Department, Zeigler Fire Department, Abbott-AMR, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, and the Illinois State Police assisted the sheriff’s office.
