MT. VERNON (WMIX) – A 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail facing weapons charges stemming from a traffic stop Wednesday in Mt. Vernon.
According to Illinois State Police, around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon, an ISP trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County.
However, the vehicle continued driving and exited the interstate before coming to a stop. A passenger, identified as 40-year-old Daniel Bible of Mt. Vernon, attempted to flee on foot.
After a brief foot pursuit, the trooper took Bible into custody on multiple charges and transported him to the Jefferson County Jail.
He was formally charged in Jefferson County Court Thursday with Class X felony Armed Violence, Class 2 felony Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and misdemeanor Resisting a Police Officer.
He’s next scheduled to appear in court on June 11 for a pretrial detention hearing. He’ll remain in the Jefferson County Jail until that time.
