SPRINGFIELD – The recipients were announced Thursday for a Community Development Block Grant for Public Infrastructure, and there are a few communities in our area getting grants.
Cairo will receive $1,490,400. Carmi will get $587,657. Cobden will get $701,325. Golconda will see $723,100. And Norris City will get $1,498,905.
The money will be used to support critical repairs to water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure to enhance safety and quality of life for residents.
A total of $41 million was awarded to 32 communities for repairs.
Local governments received grants of up to $1.5 million with an average grant size of $1.2 million.
Preference was given to projects located in underserved areas, opportunity zones, and those which proposed a non-state matching component to drive the maximum investment to the area.
