METROPOLIS – A Joppa man is facing drug-related charges following a traffic stop late Saturday night in Metropolis.

According to Metropolis Police, an officer stopped a gray Ford SUV for no taillights around 11:20 p.m. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected a very strong odor of raw cannabis emitting from the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed items related to drug trafficking. Also found were three bags of methamphetamine (approximately 114 grams), 26.8 grams of cannabis, and a large sum of cash. The passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Travis C. Blanton of Joppa, admitted that the items were his and not the driver’s.

Blanton was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis with the Intent to Deliver.

Blanton was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
