CARBONDALE – The Carbondale Parks Department has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to completely remodel Attucks Park.

Parks officials announced that news on their Facebook page Thursday.

The money will be used to take out the two play structures and replace them with one, brand new, giant playground and it might have a zipline. The mulch on the ground will also be removed and replaced with a solid surface that will eliminate flooding problems. The park will also be ADA accessible so all kids can play.

Work has begun to get the new equipment ordered. The goal is to have this project done this year.
