CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man has been arrested in connection with last Wednesday’s report of a man with a gun in the 100 block of North Parrish Lane, near Parrish School, in Carbondale
The Carbondale Police Department says during the course of the investigation, detectives, with assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, applied for and received an arrest warrant for 37-year-old Keith S. Smith of Carbondale for Aggravated Battery and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
Detectives located and arrested Smith Friday on the arrest warrant. Smith was released pending court. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Just before 4 last Wednesday afternoon, police responded to the scene and learned that an altercation between several juveniles and adults at a home across the street from the school had moved down the street to a parking lot. Some of the involved parties left prior to the arrival of officers. A caller, who was not present at the incident, indicated a firearm was involved, but at that time it had not been verified. One of the involved parties suffered a minor injury. There was no indication that this incident was related to Parrish School in any way, but there were several officers on the scene for a period of time to ensure that. Officers requested Parrish School go on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
