BLUFORD (WMIX) – A Monday night fire at a Bluford home took the life of one resident and injured a second.
According to Jefferson Fire, they received the call around 8:30 Monday night of a fire at a home in the 19000 block of North Harmony Lane in Bluford.
Flames kept rescuers from reaching a woman in the home from being rescued, and once the fire was knocked down for firefighters to reach her, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene.
Relatives who live across the street from the fire were able to reach a man who lived at the home and dragged him onto the front porch.
Firefighters ultimately moved him from the porch to the yard. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The names of the two residents have not yet been released.
Firefighters reported heavy fire at the back of the single-story home and heavy smoke at the front. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.
Firefighters remained on the scene until early Tuesday morning.
