BENTON – Elizabeth Lorene Holmes, 86, of Benton, Illinois passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 in her residence at 5:50 p.m.

Lorene was born May 12, 1937, in Benton, Illinois to Georg Merritt and Edith (Lipe) Ezell. She loved to cook, sew, and garden. Lorene loved horse shoes and quilts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, George Thomas Ezell.

Lorene is survived by her son Mark (Michelle) Holmes, sister Mary Phillips, two grandchildren Stephanie (Eric Meadows) Holmes and Charles Holmes; four great grandchildren Jack, Connor, Alexander, and Mason; two great-great grandchildren Ren and Astrid.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois with Eric Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Benton, Illinois. 

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
