SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Strong to severe storms are possible, especially later today and tonight for our region.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, several rounds of showers and storms are expected with the best potential for severe storms again later this afternoon into this evening and overnight. The main concerns will be damaging winds and heavy rainfall, but large hail and tornadoes are possible as well.

Forecasters have updated the severe weather outlook for today. As of 8:45 a.m., areas from Mt. Vernon south to Marion are in a marginal risk for severe weather. Marion and points to the south are now in a slight risk for severe weather with Alexander and Pulaski counties expecting a slight to enhanced risk for severe weather.

Today’s severe weather outlook map shows the northernmost counties of Southern Illinois in a slight risk for severe weather with the southernmost counties being in a slight to enhanced risk for severe weather depending on where you are located.
