INA – Illinois State Police responded to a semi fire at milepost 80 on northbound I-57 in Jefferson County Tuesday night.

According to ISP, when troopers arrived around 7:30, the driver of the semi told them he noticed the smell of smoke coming from the vehicle and pulled over. He then noticed flames coming from the roof of the power unit. The Jefferson Fire Protection District was dispatched to the scene.

The trailer the semi was pulling was not damaged, but the entire cab portion and engine compartment of the power unit was destroyed. No injuries were reported.

ISP says no further information is available.
