WOODLAWN – Area firefighters responded around 8:38 Tuesday morning to a report of a crop duster that had crashed into a Woodlawn field.

According to Woodlawn Fire Protection, due to the nature of the incident, Jefferson County Dispatch auto-launched Air Evac. While units from both agencies were responding, dispatch updated that it was a helicopter that had crashed in a field.

Units arrived in the area and located a helicopter that was upright in a standing cornfield. The pilot was the sole occupant of the helicopter. He had made his way from the crash site and was along the roadway.

The pilot had minor injuries, so Air Evac was canceled. The pilot was checked by fire department personnel and Litton Ambulance personnel that arrived on scene shortly after.

Personnel from the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport arrived to assist with further notifications of the appropriate authorities.

The scene was left with them along with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office personnel.
