WEST FRANKFORT – Helen Delores Myers, 97, of West Frankfort left this world for Heaven on July 8, 2023, at Stonebridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Benton.

She was born on February 20, 1926, to Denzil and Mary Smothers in Parrish, Illinois.  She was a member of the Baptist faith and placed her trust in Jesus as her Savior at an early age. She was a homemaker who loved to crochet and spend time with her family, and sang in the church choir for much of her life. In her younger years, she worked as a seamstress and made clothing for her family for many years. She was a Cardinals fan who loved to listen to their games on the radio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Denzil Smothers, Jr. and his wife, June Smothers; her sister Louise Parkhill and husband, Dean Parkhill; her brother Marvin Smothers; her son-in-law David McDonald; former husband Leon Myers; and special friend Ed Sullivan.

She is survived by two daughters Kaye (Larry) Miller of Thompsonville and Connie McDonald of West Frankfort. Delores leaves six grandchildren: Jerry (Jennifer) Miller, Jeff (Lauren) Miller, Jenny (Carlton) Binkley, Tobi McFarland, Burton (Cathi) McFarland, and Daniel (Leeanne) McDonald; two step-grandchildren Tamara Burk and Tracy (Matthew) Jensen. She has 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister-in-law Brenda Smothers as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois with Pastor Carlton Binkley officiating. 

Burial will be in the Mt. Etna Cemetery in Thompsonville, Illinois. 

Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
