MCLEANSBORO – As millions of travelers hit the road for summer vacations, the McLeansboro Police Department is joining with the Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police to urge motorists to stop speeding and help ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely.
McLeansboro Police have received an increased number of complaints about speed, reckless driving, and other traffic violations within McLeansboro. The complaints occur in residential neighborhoods, around schools, and on the major routes throughout the city. They also occur throughout all hours of the day and night. McLeansboro Police take these complaints and violations of the law seriously.
“Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous,” said McLeansboro Police Chief Nathan Taylor. “Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they are the law.”
Drivers can expect a ticket from McLeansboro Police if they are spotted speeding. Stepped-up patrols will be seen throughout City of McLeansboro and the state July 6 to July 31.
The speed enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.
