
MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Police arrested a 16-year-old male after responding to a report around 9:30 Saturday night of a masked man firing shots from a blue Dodge Avenger near 19th and Conger.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiate a traffic stop on it in the area of 13th and Jones. But according to police, as the vehicle came to a stop, a male wearing a ski mask fled from the car and into a wooded area.
A perimeter was set up and the K9 tracked the suspect in the wooded area where he was apprehended.
The suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, was reportedly found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. He was initially transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the apprehension.
He was subsequently arrested on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Armed Violence and Felony Resisting arrest.
At the time of his arrest, the juvenile was wanted on an outstanding Jefferson County warrant for Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Armed Violence.
The juvenile was ultimately transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a court appearance in Jefferson County.
