MARION – A Marion woman was cited after she reportedly crashed her vehicle into Jefferson Elementary School on East Boulevard Street in Marion just after 11 Thursday night.

According to Marion Police Chief David Fitts, when officers arrived, they saw that a white Dodge Charger had crashed into the south side of the school and was sitting inside the library. No one was in the school when the crash occurred.

The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Tiffany P. Meller of Marion, was issued citations for Underage Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, Zero Tolerance, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, Disregard a Traffic Control Device, No Valid License, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

Meller was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment. Meller’s current physical condition is unknown at this time.

Marion Police continue to investigate.

Students and staff at Jefferson Elementary and Jefferson Pre-K were not at school Friday so the crash scene could be cleaned up and repairs made to the school. All other Marion Unit 2 schools were in session Friday.
