MT. VERNON – A vacant Mt. Vernon home was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon while two other homes and multiple vehicles were either damaged or also destroyed in the blaze.
According to the Mt. Vernon Fire Department, around 4:17 p.m., firefighters responded to a call at 1013 Wescott where they found the structure fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
Flames spread and destroyed a car parked between it and a neighboring home, before heavily damaging that second home.
Heat from the fire then damaged two cars parked on the street and melted some of the siding on the front of a home across the street.
The owner of that home was working on a car in the garage and was unaware of the fire until being asked to leave for their safety by the fire department.
