CENTRALIA – The occupants of a car were trapped for over an hour Monday morning when live power lines fell on their vehicle in Centralia.

According to Centralia police, around 5 a.m. Monday, 33-year-old Tia Robertson, of Carlyle was driving in the 1700 block of West McCord Street when she struck a mailbox then swerved and struck a power pole on the other side of the highway.

The collision caused live power lines to fall on the car that was occupied by Robertson, her 38-year-old passenger Matthew Mohr of Pinkneyville, and two four-year-old twins.

All four were trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour as they waited for Ameren crews to arrive and cut power to the arcing lines on their car.

Once freed, Mohr was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. He was later arrested for violating an order of protection for having contact with Robertson and the two children in the car.

Robertson was arrested for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Improper Lane Usage, Driving Too Fast for Conditions, and two counts of Child Endangerment.

Both Robertson and Mohr were taken to the Clinton County Jail and the four-year-old twins were picked up by a family member.
