BENTON – After 18 years in business, Pearson’s Skating Rink located on Illinois 37 in Benton is closing.

The owners said on the skating rink’s Facebook page that the wood rink was ruined by about an inch of water that poured from a broken water line in December. The skating rink has been closed since then.

They say in order to get back up and running, they would have to wait six months to a year to get the wood floor replaced due to a wood shortage. The skating rink also does not have enough business interruption insurance to cover it for that long. Its insurance company also decided not to renew the business’s policy due to making a claim on the business. So the decision was made to close the rink.

The owners plan to sell the building and hope that someone else will buy the building and make it a skating rink again.
