CARMI – The White County Board is expected to appoint Deputy Sheriff Randy Graves as Sheriff when it meets Tuesday night at 6 at the courthouse in Carmi.
Graves will replace Sheriff Doug Maier, who recently announced his retirement effective March 1. Maier is retiring so he can spend more time with his family. Graves will fill the remainder of Maier’s term, which expires at the end of next year.
The Board will also consider Maier’s resignation at the meeting. Maier is leaving after 39 years of service. He spent 21 years as a deputy before spending the last 18 as sheriff. He was elected to the position five times.
