MT. VERNON (WMIX) – A 19-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Saturday for allegedly firing a gun in the 1100 block of Maple Street in Mt. Vernon.

According to Mt. Vernon Police, they responded shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired and two males fleeing the scene on foot.

The caller reported seeing two males walking outside before hearing shots fired and seeing three subjects fleeing on foot.

Following an investigation, Kreed Bumpus was taken into custody on suspicion of firing some of the shots on Maple Street.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he remains awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bond.

Bumpus is not believed to have been one of three individuals seen running from the scene.

A second individual, 29-year-old Tyler Williams was also arrested. Williams was taken to the Jefferson County Jail for alleged possession of a firearm projectile and possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine.

The investigation into the shots fired is ongoing.
