MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Police arrested two Mt. Vernon men on multiple drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop late Tuesday night.

According to court records, bond was set at $100,000 in Jefferson County Court Wednesday for 20-year-old Guy G. Twiggs. Twiggs is charged with Class X felony armed violence and Class 2 felony possession of between 5 and 15 grams of methamphetamine.

Bond was set at $60,000 for 28-year-old Tyler J. Williams. Williams is charged with two Class 2 felonies for possession of fentanyl and possession of between 5 and 15 grams of meth.

According to police reports, their arrests came just before midnight Tuesday when an Mt. Vernon police officer made a traffic stop in the 400 block of Broadway after seeing that the vehicle had a defective exhaust and only one working taillight.

Upon making contact with the occupants, the officer developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

Officers then reportedly located quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis, drug equipment, drug packaging items, and a loaded 9mm handgun. Three occupants in the vehicle were taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Detectives from the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit were called upon to assist patrol with the investigation.
