Three Suffer Life-Threatening Injures in Crash Involving Two SUVs and Semi in White County Thursday

CARMI – A injury crash involving two SUVs and a semi happened Thursday morning in White County.

According to Illinois State Police, at 7:40 a.m., a semi with trailer driven by 46-year-old Douglas J. Turner of Cape Girardeau and a SUV driven by 28-year-old Katherine E. Stewart of Carmi were traveling south on Illinois 1 just north of County Road 800 North as another SUV driven by 28-year-old Johnna D. Smith of Norris City was traveling north at the same location.

Turner crossed the center line and struck the side of Smith’s SUV. Smith’s SUV then struck the front of Stewart’s SUV.

Turner reported no injuries at the scene. Smith and her passenger, 31-year-old Timothy R. Brown of Norris City, and Stewart were all flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Turner was cited for Improper Lane Usage and Logbook Violation.
