WEST FRANKFORT – Six members of the West Frankfort Fire Department were awarded Life Safety Commendations for their roles in two separate incidents this year at Tuesday night’s West Frankfort City Council meeting.

According to a post on the West Frankfort Fire Department’s Facebook page, on Jan. 15, Captain Robert Williams, Firefighter David Chambers and Firefighter Jonathon Horrell located a male in the basement of a burning home. They were able to safely remove him from the home and he was transported to the hospital for treatment.

On Sept. 6, Firefighter Jeremy Lingle and Firefighter Lucas Lingle located an unresponsive female in her burning apartment inside the Anna Gray High Rise. They were able to successfully remove the victim and hand her off to Firefighter/Paramedic Gaston Sailliez, who was waiting with an ambulance. Firefighter Sailliez provided lifesaving treatment to the victim by himself for several minutes until assistance arrived and they could transport the victim to a local hospital. Both victims were later released from the hospital and are expected to make full recoveries.
