HARRISBURG – The City of Harrisburg will be putting on its first Shawnee Sasquatch Festival Saturday.

Alex Watkins is the City’s Community Development Director. He says the Community Development Committee teamed up with local businesses and community leaders at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to find ways to engage the community and provide outlets not only for youth but for all residents.

One way the city did this was with its free drive-in movie nights. Watkins says once the pandemic started getting under control, they started looking at how they could promote what the area is best known for – the Shawnee National Forest.

Watkins is hoping to make this an annual event.
