SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The U.S. Forest Service says more prescribed burns are set to take place, weather permitting, this week in the Shawnee National Forest.
Prescribed burns will happen at Hart Creek, about a mile south of Herod, at Condro nine miles southwest of Golconda and at Beatty Branch, about six miles northwest of Golconda.
A prescribed fire is a planned event. Forest Service prescribed fires are overseen by professional firefighters with training and experience. Fire personnel plan for and carefully monitor smoke being generated during the prescribed burn. You can expect the bulk of smoke to be visible in early to mid-afternoon and dissipate before dark.
