BENTON – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has recently received several calls reporting a telephone scam in the area.
According to Sheriff David Bartoni, during the call, the caller identifies themselves as a law enforcement officer and advises of an active arrest warrant for the intended victim. The caller threatens arrest if the intended victim does not provide bond money to the caller.
This is a scam and not the way a legitimate law enforcement agency collects bond or processes arrest warrants.
If you receive one of these calls, Sheriff Bartoni urges you to hang up immediately without providing any personal information.
