Person of Interest Sought in Weekend Shooting in Marion

MARION – Marion Police say they’re looking for a person of interest allegedly involved in a shooting over the weekend that injured one person.

Police were called out to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Jodi Lane Saturday. When officers arrived, they found that a 29-year-old man had been shot in the leg near the groin area. The suspect had already left the scene in a dark, four-door vehicle that was later found in Herrin. Witnesses took the man to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. He was then airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.  

Police say 23-year-old Braden D. Whitecotton of Herrin is a person of interest and is wanted for questioning in this case. He is a white male, standing 6′ tall with brown hair and green eyes. Whitecotton’s last known location was in the Little Grassy Road/Prison Road area. He should be considered armed and dangerous, so do not approach him.
