NWS Releases Updated Information Regarding Mayfield-Dawson Springs Tornado

PADUCAH – The National Weather Service Thursday night released updated information regarding the Mayfield-Dawson Springs long track tornado last Friday night.

After several days of extensive surveying, the National Weather Service in Memphis, Paducah and Louisville have determined the EF-4 tornado had estimated peak winds of 190 mph and traveled almost 166 miles. It had a maximum path width of a mile or more.

The tornado started around 8:50 p.m. one mile southwest of Woodland Mills, TN and ended around 11:50 p.m. 2.5 miles northeast of Falls of Rough, KY.

The total number of fatalities and injuries is unknown.

There were massive impacts along most of the tornado track. The worst damage was found in the following locations: Cayce, Mayfield, north of Benton, south of Princeton, Dawson Springs, Barnsley and Bremen, and possibly others.
