Nature-based Yoga Classes Offered at Rend Lake Visitor Center

REND LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake has partnered with a local certified yoga instructor, Sandra Emberton, to offer free children’s yoga classes for children 5-8 years old.

These programs will be a six-week series, “Story and Stretch”, and will be held at the Rend Lake Visitor Center.

Each week, there will be a kid-friendly themed yoga pose, a story, and coloring sheet. Sessions will be located outdoors near the Visitor Center Pollinator Garden, weather permitting. Participants should bring their own yoga mat or blanket.

Upcoming dates for “Story and Stretch” are September 17, October 8, 11, 15, 22, and 29 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Each session will require prior registration as the classes are limited to six participants. Adult supervision is required. Registration for the first session (September 17) will open on September 12. Email Sandra.emberton@siu.edu to register. The theme for session one is giraffes and the theme for session two is boats.

Beginning September 22 at 10:00 a.m., there will also be adult yoga classes every Thursday through October 27.

“Nama’Stay in Nature” is a gentle yoga class for beginners ages 18 and over. The class will feature meditative walks through the Visitor Center Pollinator Garden, nature-based visualization, and beginners’ yoga stretches.
