Mt. Vernon Man Sentenced on Escape Charge

MT. VERNON – A 26-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced this week in Jefferson County Court to an additional five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a Class 1 felony charge of escape.

Dante Moore was convicted in July 2020 of aggravated discharge of a firearm stemming from a 2017 incident in Mt. Vernon in which two people were shot.

After he was sentenced in that case to 10 years in prison, Moore was ordered to turn himself in the following day for transport to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He was advised at that time failure to report could result in an escape charge.

He failed to report the next morning and an escape charge was subsequently filed against him.

Moore pleaded guilty Tuesday to the escape charge and was sentenced to a consecutive five-year term in prison that will have to be served after the completion of the previous 10-year term.

Per Tuesday’s plea agreement, two Class 2 felony charges of methamphetamine delivery in 2019 were dismissed.
