Mt. Vernon Man Heading to Prison for Residential Burglary

MT. VERNON – A 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced last week in Jefferson County Court to 5 years in prison on a residential burglary charge.

Jason Upton pleaded guilty in December 2020 to the burglary complaint originating in the 10000 block of E. Cedar Hills Road in rural Mt. Vernon.

A possession of methamphetamine charge was dismissed in the case in exchange for his guilty plea to the burglary charge.

He was given credit for 303 days served in the Jefferson County Jail. A second man arrested in that case, 40-year-old Michael Upton, was sentenced earlier last month to 11 years in prison after earlier pleading guilty to Class 1 felony residential burglary.
