Mt. Vernon Man Arrested for Driving Alleged Stolen Truck

MT. VERNON – Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 41-year-old Mt. Vernon man over the weekend after spotting him driving an allegedly stolen vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s department, Daniel E. Morton was arrested Saturday on charges of possession of stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property.

A deputy reportedly observed a Nissan truck driving in the area and recognized it as a vehicle stolen the previous day from the Belle Rive Post Office.

Additional units from the sheriff’s office and Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to assist the deputy, who was able to stop the truck in the 14000 block of North Morton Lane.

Morton, who was driving the stolen vehicle, was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail. Officers searched the vehicle and collected evidence.

The investigation into the stolen vehicle is ongoing.

Morton was formally charged Monday in Jefferson County Court with Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle.
