MT. VERNON – Continental Tire is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for multiple bomb threats made recently toward their Mt. Vernon facility.
According to the company, two bomb threats in the last few weeks forced evacuation of the plant. Both times the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Secretary of State’s Office were notified. They found the threats to not be credible and employees were allowed to return to work.
Continental Tire says they will now be increasing various security measures so people should be prepared for delays when entering the facility.
The company notes the bomb threats are a federal offense and says they will pursue legal measures. They also announced a reward of $5,000 is being offered for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the bomb threats.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will be handling tips anonymously through the Jefferson County Crime Stoppers. Those numbers are 618-244-8004 and 618-242-8477.
