Mobile Vaccine Site Offered at Illinois Extension in Murphysboro Tuesday

MURPHYSBORO – Illinois Extension in Jackson County will be the site for a mobile vaccination site for all eligible individuals under Phase 1A, 1B or 1B+ Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 402 Ava Road in Murphysboro. This is part of the vaccination effort coordinated by the Jackson County Health Department, Army National Guard, and Southern Illinois Healthcare.

The expanded list of eligible conditions includes cancer, chronic kidney disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), diabetes, heart conditions, immunosuppressed states from a solid organ transplant, smoking, obesity, pregnancy, pulmonary disease, and sickle cell disease.

“Mobile vaccination sites throughout southern Illinois are helping to meet people where they are. When local agencies band together, we can help remove some of the barriers that may be preventing eligible people from receiving the vaccine,” stated Lynn Heins, Extension Director for Illinois Extension in Jackson County. “The Extension office in Murphysboro is easily accessible for rural and agricultural participants from the western part of Jackson County.”

The event is walk-in only, and no appointments will be taken in advance. Eligible individuals should provide a valid form of identification and must be at least 18 years of age. There is no charge for the vaccine, and insurance will not be billed. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered during the event.
